Birthday Weekend Getaway

Birthdays are a time for celebrating another year of life given to us. I love birthdays, but I don’t always like organizing and planning it. After my 30th I decided I was done with having big birthday dinners and would rather travel and gain experiences instead. So this year I decided to head to Chicago, I heard so many good things about the city I just had to see for myself.Bridge

I decided to go the first weekend of May since my birthday fell on a weekday, I was excited for my birthday weekend getaway. I received multiple recommendations from coworkers and friends on places to go and eat. I tried my best to go to all the recommendations but time got the best of us.

We stayed at the Palmer House A Hilton Hotel, which is conveniently located a couple blocks from Millennium & Grant Parks. Close to the Willis tower, Navy Pier, and countless restaurants.

Places to visit:

Millennium Park & the Bean- Beautiful Park to just sit and admire the architecture

Maggie Daley Park- They have a rock climbing wall & mini golf

Willis Tower (formerly Sears tower)- Highly recommended, the lines move fairly quickly and they are very efficient about giving everyone equal amount of time to take pictures

Willis Tower

Navy Pier- A great place to spend the day, you can buy an adult beverage and walk around the pier or sit and enjoy the view of the city

Places to eat:

Beatrix- Great brunch and even better coffee

Beatrix

Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder Co.- Not your typical deep dish Chicago style pizza. This mom & pop place makes a mean pizza pot pie, just remember to take out cash as they do not accept card as payment

OBG

Fremont- If you’re looking for a brunch/day party spot then this is your place. They have unlimited brunch and mimosa’s for one price, just make sure your make your reservations as the line can be long.

Lou Malnati’s- Looking for some deep dish Chicago pizza, then Lou’s is the place for you. I think I am more of a NY style pizza gyal, but I am willing to give deep dish one more try.

Lou's

Wildberry Pancakes & Café- If you are HUNGRY, then this is the place for you. Their portion sizes are HUGE and the food is really good.

WIldberry

I wish I had more time to take the architectural boat tour as well as visit wriggly park and so much more, guess that means I need to plan another trip to Chi Town!
