DC 🚘 Miami

I logged on to instagram, checking my DMs when I saw a message from my old roommate from Miami telling me, ‘I just bought a condo in Miami and I’m driving down to check it out and set it up if you want to come.’ My first reaction was ‘omg you’re moving back???’ Then she quickly told me no and that she bought investment property. Kudos to her!

Sooo, of course I agreed, and we left very early on a Sunday morning. She picked me up at 4am on her way down from New York, and we started our journey. The first place we stopped was a diner in Rocky Mont, we were both so hungry. When I travel I like to look for restaurants that are specific to that area and google maps listed this diner as having 4.2 stars so I was sold. When we arrived we were told that we could sit anywhere that did not have an X on the table For social distancing purposes. After we sat and ordered we quickly began to wonder if we made the right decision and if we should leave. The cooks were not wearing their mask and the servers were wearing them inappropriately. We received our food, I ordered blueberry pancakes with a side hash browns and my friend ordered the omelette with home fries. When the food arrived our doubts of staying resurfaced. The potatoes did not look good! My hash browns looked like that could have cooked a little longer, and her potatoes just looked bad. We quickly ate, left the potatoes untouched, and left. We were back on the road again…

As we were driving I began thinking about our next stop. For some years now I have wanted to do a road trip to Savannah, Ga. Since I did not plan this trip and was just along for the ride I didn’t know how to suggest it and I didn’t know her time schedule for getting in Miami. After being on the road for a couple hours she mentions how she’s wanted to visit Savannah, I looked at her and said ‘ME TOO!’ I looked at the map and we would pass right through Savannah, I told her we had too, and besides it would be time for lunch by the time we would reach.

We arrived in Savannah around 1pm, perfect timing for Sunday Brunch. We decided to check out some sights before heading to brunch, first stop Forsyth park and it was beautiful. It was a nice day out so when we saw how scarce the park was we were surprised. We both agreed that if we were in DC or NYC the park would be packed. I wonder if that’s because we only get to enjoy parks for about five month out the year.

Savannah is such a cute city and I wish we had more time to explore, but it was time to eat. We had brunch at the Collins Quarter, we both ordered the avocado toast with mimosas cause what’s brunch without mimosas.

I got smoked salmon in place of the egg

It was time to hit the road again, next stop Miami. We had about four hours left and I was driving. I found a podcast that kept me alert, like wide awake. If you need a good podcast take a listen to Full Body Chills. We, well maybe just me, listened to the whole first season and got caught up on the latest episode of the second season. As the narrator told the story I could picture and imagine everything she said. My eyes were glued to the road as if it were my screen, don’t worry, I was fully paying attention to the road.

Ahh finally made it in…14 hours later. It was now time for me to head to wynwood where I would attempt to surprise my friend who was having a farewell dinner, she just bought a house and was leaving Miami. I found out her dinner plans via instagram. Thanks to social media for broadcasting our plans. I arrived and couldn’t wait to see the look on there faces, they had no idea I was in town. I walked in the restaurant and it was completely empty, when your plan fails you. I was too late, I walked outside and called her. I confessed that I was at the restaurant and she told me she was still in the area and had just left to drop a friend off at their car. After they got his car they both came back and I ordered food, I hadn’t eaten since brunch and I was so hungry.

The rest of the trip I was able to catch up with friends, some I haven’t seen in years and I even got to meet my friends baby. Even though it was a short trip and the journey down was long, I am glad I went.

Have you done more road trips or plane trips in this season?
