Fall, one of my favorite seasons after spring, when the leaves begin to change colors from green to a bright beautiful orange, yellow, and red. The leaves begin to pave the streets as they fall symbolizing a new season is amongst us; new beginnings.
Growing up in Florida, fall activities were always something that I heard other people take part in and watched other families enjoy on TV. It didn’t exist for us Floridians, or maybe it just didn’t exist in my home; and cool weather, well when it decided to show up it lasted for all of a couple days. Fashionable boots and sweaters were something I always wanted to wear; to layer a long sweater with some over the knee boots was something I longed to do. But now I no longer have to look at fall fashion and wish ‘that could be me,’ because I get to enjoy it after moving to DC.

Not only is fall about fashion, but a time when pumpkins rule; pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin picking, and pumpkin carving. There are also so many other fun fall activities like hayrides, apple picking, fall festivals, hiking, camp fires, corn mazes and so much more.
This fall I have been able to partake in some of those fall activities and I have been having a blast. I the chance to visit two different corn mazes, one in Maryland during the day, and the other in Virginia at night. Two very different experiences and let’s just say I prefer to visit when it’s light out and I can see where I am going. My team from church wanted to have team night in the corn maze at night, and initially it sounded like so much fun, but that was when I was naïve and had never visited a corn maze. After visiting, I knew there would be no lights, and at eight o’clock at night it would be pitch black. It was a little scary, not going to lie, I had my flashlight on the entire time especially after this little boy decided to scare us by jumping out of the corn screaming!! I almost peed my pants, and all I could think about was the movie ‘Children of the Corn.’ I was on high alert until we exited the maze and gathered around the bon fire to make s’mores.

While alot of fall activities take place in October, October is also known for Oktoberfest. I have not had the chance to attend Oktoberfest, but something better, Oystober fest. Laurel park held a fall festival that included all you can eat oysters and beer, they also had a hay maze, pumpkin patch, and trick or treating for the little ones. The oysters were provided by a mom and pop oyster farm, supplying 4,000 oysters for the event. Although the oysters were yummy, we found ourselves spending most of our time standing in line to get oysters so we could get our monies worth. Overall I really enjoyed myself and the time I had to catch up with my girl.
